Contact Your Senators Now to Oppose Efforts to Rush Through a Health Reform Bill
Share |

A health reform bill based on the House bill is being crafted by a select group of U.S. Senators without the input of physicians and other major stakeholders. Despite calls by UCAOA and many others to oppose the American Health Care Act (AHCA) as passed by the House of Representatives, the Senators are bypassing input from the healthcare community and are moving to force a vote on this bill in the next few weeks. UCAOA recommends you contact your Senators by phone to express your opinions now.

UCAOA suggests you call your Senators and urge them to oppose efforts to repeal the ACA by dialing the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121, introduce yourself as a constituent and public health professional, and feel free to use these talking points:

  • Urgent care center providers across the country bear witness every day to the consequences of the uninsured, under-insured, and those who simply can’t access a primary care provider.  These individuals wait to seek care until their condition has worsened, and oftentimes neglect important routine and preventive services that can help keep them healthy.
  • The ACA is imperfect and reform is needed but the AHCA as currently drafted would unravel the underlying fabric that has made healthcare coverage more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans.
  • Until it can be shown that the AHCA in its current form will not make heathcare coverage less affordable and lead to substantial losses in coverage for the currently insured, we cannot offer its support and strongly urge lawmakers to engage healthcare stakeholders.
  • RoIling back Medicaid expansions, insurance mandates, and premium subsidies and penalizing consumers based on age or gaps in coverage is likely to decrease choices, increase costs, and destabilize the health insurance market.
