No urgent care center is an “island.” Rather, urgent care is positioned as a “front door” to a community’s interconnected health resources receiving referrals from primary care and lower acuity facilities and in turn providing patients with ready access to diagnostics, specialists, and hospital services. Health care functions most efficiently when there is coordination across the spectrum of patient needs. In this webinar, Alan A. Ayers, MBA, MAcc, details how an urgent care center can benefit from building relationships with primary care, retail health clinics, employers, and consumers. He also describes the value of positive patient experiences in differentiating urgent care centers and contrasts the model of hospital urgent care based on downstream referrals from that based on accountable care. Urgent care operators can benefit from higher volumes, better quality of care, improved medical outcomes, and increased patient satisfaction.
